This song has a great story...While in Dallas, TX playing the Broadway musical Jekyll & Hyde back in the mid '90's, I went shopping for a new flute. My cab driver was from Nigeria, and after a long but enjoyable day shopping at several music stores, I asked him how to say thank you...he answered, "Imena" (which sounds like my last name)....but misheard it...It's actually "Imela", so I wrote this with an African 12/8 groove and titled it, Imela Chukwu, which means "Thank You, Son of God". What I also thought worked well was the prayer in the Nigerian Ibo language from a local Nigerian Brother in South Florida. It features some great playing by the band. I hope you enjoy it!
